Blake’s Baby Quilt

Blake's Baby Quilt

Since we are on the topic of baby quilts, this is the quilt I made for my first grandchild, Blake Leigh Ann, who was born in May 2011. This was quilt #93, made in March of 2011. I finished it in time for Katie’s (and Blake’s) baby shower.

It took me forever to settle on what pattern to use to make this quilt. IN the end, I used this Bricks in Bloom pattern from Moda Bake Shop as inspiration. First of all, I loved the colors; second of all, I was tickled the fact that the designer of this quilt used graph paper just like me! I look for any excuse to use graph paper so I set out to drawing out Blake’s quilt.

As you can see in my notes, the blocks I cut were mostly 6 1/2-inch x 3 1/2-inches. Some were 3 1/2 x 3 1/2. These were at the end of every other block. The finished size of this quilt is approximately 48″ x 60″.

The fabric I used was mainly from the Chirp Line by Katie Hennagir. Unfortunately, this line doesn’t seem to be readily available any more.

As you can tell, I changed up the flowers a little from the Bricks in Bloom pattern. When it came to Blake’s name, I typed it using the Pea Noodle Parlor font from Kevin and Amanda. I printed it out backwards, traced it onto fusible web, and ironed it to the back of dark brown fabric. I then ironed it onto the quilt and sewed around it.
